Sharp Microwave Drawers: Sizes, Features and Installation
How Sharp's 24 and 30-inch microwave drawers differ, how to plan the cutout, and four models compared side by side.

A microwave drawer installs below the counter, usually in an island or under a wall oven, and opens like a drawer instead of a door. You load food from above, which frees up counter space and keeps the microwave within easy reach. Most Sharp drawers share the same 1.2 cu. ft. capacity and 950 cooking watts.
This guide explains how Sharp microwave drawers differ, how to plan the cutout, and compares four models we carry, using the specs listed on each product page. You can see all models on our Sharp brand page.

Where a Microwave Drawer Works
Microwave drawers go below the counter, so they work well in kitchen islands, under a cooktop or under a wall oven. Kids can reach them easily, and the counter and upper cabinets stay clear. Because you load from above, a drawer is easier for many people than reaching into an over-the-range microwave.
A drawer is a microwave only. None of the four models here lists convection, so if you also want baking or air fry in one box, look at a combination wall oven or speed oven instead. Our guide to microwaves from countertop to drawer compares the styles.

Cutout and Installation
Start with the cabinet. The SMD2470ASY, SMD2489ES and SMD3070ASY list a 23 1/2" cutout depth and a 15 9/16" cutout height. The 24-inch models list a 22 1/8" cutout width, and the 30-inch SMD3070ASY lists 28 7/16". All four run on 120 volts and 15 amps, so plan a dedicated outlet in the cabinet.
