Wall, Island or Insert: Which Elica Style Fits?
Pick the style from your kitchen layout, not from looks alone. If the range sits against a wall with no cabinet above it, a wall-mount chimney hood like the Bolsena is the simplest choice. If the cooktop is in an island, you need an island hood like the Maggiore, which is ducted up through the ceiling.
If you want the hood to match your cabinets, choose an insert. Your cabinet maker or contractor builds the hood cover, and the insert supplies the fan, lights and filters. The Palermo is sized for 30-inch ranges, and the Pro Trento suits large pro ranges.

Filters, Noise and Duct Size
Baffle filters are made of stainless steel channels that catch grease and go in the dishwasher. Mesh filters are lighter and also catch grease well; they just need cleaning a bit more often under heavy use. Four of the five hoods here use baffle or semi-baffle filters.
Duct size matters more than most people expect. The 600 CFM models here use a 6-inch round duct, while the 1200 CFM Pro Trento needs an 8-inch duct.
